Venev Centaur Series Dual Side Bonded Diamond Stone, 100+240 Grit

The Venev Centaur Series of Industrial Diamonds is a versatile and high-performance sharpening solution, particularly suited for use with Hapstone and TSProf guided knife sharpeners, as well as for freehand sharpening.

The Centaur Series features a dual-sided design, with two 1 mm-thick diamond-bearing layers bonded to an aluminum plate. The diamond grains are evenly distributed and held in place by a resin-based binder, which is more complex to manufacture than coated diamonds but provides better feedback and a longer lifespan for the sharpening stone.

The series is available in five different grit combinations, ranging from F80 + F150 to F800 OCB + F1200 OCB, allowing users to choose the perfect combination for their sharpening needs. Additionally, some variants are available in either 25% or 100% diamond concentration, with the 25% option being better suited for scratch-free sharpening and the 100% version offering higher performance.

Venev recommends using the Centaur Series with water as a lubricant, as the diamond grains do not absorb water. Dry usage is possible but can result in faster wear and stone loading. The working surface of the Centaur Series measures 150 x 25 mm (6" x 1"), providing ample space for sharpening a variety of blade sizes.

When compared to the Venev Orion series, the Centaur stones offer a more affordable option, but the Orion series has some advantages, such as a thicker diamond-bearing layer, easier identification of grit values, and the fact that the abrasive does not come into direct contact with the sharpener.

Maintenance of the Centaur Series is straightforward, with light cleaning using soapy water and a sponge, medium cleaning with Bar Keeper Friend or an eraser, and heavy maintenance, such as flattening or removing contamination, using silicon carbide powder.
